Having a distinguished academic career, Dr. Khalid Mahmood has been serving at University of the Punjab since April, 2009. He joined as a Lecturer and now bears the designation of Assistant Professor. Along with his core responsibilities of teaching and guiding students for research work he has also earned a good reputation as an emerging geo-spatial scientist. He has a good number of scientific contributions to his credit, published by top ranked international journals in the corresponding fields. Acknowledging his research contribution, he has been recognized as productive Scientist of Pakistan by National Ministry of Science and Technology. He is specialized in the use of Remote Sensing and Geo-information systems for hazard assessment and spatial patterns identification of environmental variables. Major areas of his research domain include groundwater assessment and procurement, MSW dumping hazards assessment, atmospheric pollution, rainwater harvesting, vegetation health, urban heat island effect, feasible site selection of public facilities, forestry, climate change and its effects, environmental indices etc. The motive of his focused research is the development of economical and easy to use spatial techniques to be implemented in the developing world for proper allocation of resources, leading towards a sustainable environment and better living standards. He is continuously establishing effective use of freely available remotely sensed satellite data as an economical alternative of costly in situ measurements to support the decision making and strategical planning systems for the sustainability of environment and living standards.
