Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness (BS-Agribusiness) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programme offered by the Department of Horticulture in academic collaboration with the Hailey College of Commerce, University of the Punjab, Lahore.
The programme is designed to develop competent professionals capable of managing modern agri-food systems, agribusiness enterprises, and agricultural value chains through the integrated application of agricultural sciences, horticultural knowledge, and business management principles.
Programme Delivery and Institutional Collaboration
The programme is delivered through a structured, phased academic model that strategically utilizes the complementary strengths of both collaborating academic units.
Admission and Academic Registration
Students get admission through the Department of Horticulture, which serves as the parent department for this programme.
Phase I (Years 1–2): Foundation Stage – Department of Horticulture
In the initial two academic years, students complete foundational coursework in agriculture, horticulture, basic sciences, and introductory economics. This phase develops a strong conceptual understanding of plant production systems, biological processes, and the agricultural context of agribusiness.
Phase II (Years 3–4): Specialization Stage – Hailey College of Commerce
In the subsequent two years, students transition to the Hailey College of Commerce, where they undertake advanced coursework in agribusiness management, finance, marketing, supply chain management, and related business disciplines. This phase emphasizes analytical reasoning, managerial competence, and strategic decision-making in agribusiness contexts.
Outcome of the Collaborative Model
This integrated academic structure ensures that graduates develop a balanced competency profile comprising:
A strong technical foundation in agriculture and horticulture, and
Advanced professional expertise in business, finance, and agribusiness management.
The programme is aligned with the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy (UEP-2023) and reflects international best practices in agribusiness education and outcome-based learning.

The BS-Agribusiness programme aims to produce graduates who, within a few years of professional practice, will demonstrate the following outcomes:
PEO-1: Professional Competence
Graduates will demonstrate strong professional competence in agribusiness-related domains, including agricultural marketing, finance, supply chain management, input industries, and allied agricultural services. They will be capable of performing effectively in public, private, and development sector organizations.
PEO-2: Entrepreneurship and Leadership
Graduates will be able to establish, manage, or expand agribusiness enterprises and demonstrate leadership qualities in organizational and entrepreneurial settings. They will contribute to innovation, value addition, and employment generation within the agricultural economy.
PEO-3: Strategic Decision-Making
Graduates will apply analytical reasoning, managerial principles, and evidence-based decision-making skills to address complex and dynamic challenges in agribusiness systems, including production, logistics, marketing, and policy environments.

Upon successful completion of the BS-Agribusiness programme, graduates will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
PLO-1: Knowledge Integration
Graduates will be able to synthesize and apply interdisciplinary knowledge from agriculture, horticulture, business, economics, and related fields to identify, analyze, and solve complex agribusiness problems.
PLO-2: Analytical and Quantitative Skills
Graduates will be able to analyze market dynamics, financial statements, production systems, and supply chain data using appropriate quantitative techniques, statistical tools, and relevant software applications.
PLO-3: Problem Solving and Design Capability
Graduates will be able to design practical, innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions for bottlenecks in agricultural value chains, spanning farm production to final market delivery (farm-to-fork systems).
PLO-4: Communication Skills
Graduates will be able to communicate effectively in written, oral, and digital forms, including preparation of business reports, feasibility studies, policy briefs, and professional presentations for diverse stakeholders.
PLO-5: Digital and Technological Competence
Graduates will be able to effectively use modern ICT tools, including GIS, ERP systems, agri-based applications, and e-commerce platforms for decision-making, farm management, inventory control, and market access.
PLO-6: Teamwork and Leadership
Graduates will demonstrate the ability to work effectively in individual and team settings, exhibiting leadership, coordination, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in multidisciplinary environments.
PLO-7: Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Graduates will be able to develop comprehensive agribusiness plans incorporating feasibility analysis, marketing strategies, operational planning, risk assessment, and financial projections, thereby fostering entrepreneurial ventures.

Graduates will be able to identify ethical issues in agribusiness practices and demonstrate responsible professional behavior consistent with legal frameworks, societal expectations, and Islamic ethical principles.
