Syeda Momina Masood is a writer and currently a PhD Candidate in Film and Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh where she is also enrolled in the graduate certificate in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. Her PhD dissertation, “Scatter Cinema”, explores the creative media and labor practices which bypassed state surveillance, transformed the materiality of cinema itself, and allowed for inter-Asian circulation of Pakistani cinema during the long 1980s. Her interdisciplinary research interests include Global South cinemas, specifically South Asian and Arab visual cultures, low-budget film, and gender studies. Her academic and creative essays have appeared in a wide range of literary, academic, and cultural publications. |
