Dr. Aziz Ullah Awan is a distinguished scholar in Applied Mathematics, widely recognized for his remarkable contributions to research, teaching, and academic leadership. He earned his MPhil in Mathematics from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. His academic journey began in April 2005 when he was appointed as a Lecturer in Mathematics at Government College Noor Pur Thal, following his selection through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). In May 2006, he joined the University of the Punjab, Lahore, as a Lecturer in Mathematics, marking the start of a distinguished career in higher education and research. In 2012, Dr. Awan was awarded a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences at Government College University Lahore, where he studied under the supervision of Professor Constantin Fetecu. His doctoral work explored challenging problems in Fluid Mechanics.
After completing his doctorate, Dr. Aziz Ullah Awan joined the University of the Punjab in March 2013 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Over the years he immersed himself in advancing both his research agenda and teaching practice. In August 2020, he earned promotion to a tenured associate professorship, and later, on 27 November 2024, he ascended to the rank of tenured Professor. At this point in his career, Dr. Awan has published a large body of work—well over one hundred research articles appearing in high-impact international journals—and he also contributes his expertise by reviewing manuscripts for dozens of peer-review publications. His main areas of scholarly interest lie in Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Modeling and Applied Analysis. Over the years, his efforts have gained recognition far beyond his home institution, thanks to both the reach and relevance of his work.
Dr. Awan has guided an impressive cohort of graduate researchers: Five doctoral candidates and Twenty-two MPhil scholars have completed their work under his supervision, and he is currently overseeing two more PhD students alongside three MPhil researchers. By actively investing in the development of emerging scientists, he has helped build a stronger research culture at his home institution. Dr. Awan’s research efforts have earned him a place on the prestigious list compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier that highlights the top 2 % of scientists across the globe. According to his institution’s record, he was recognized in this category in 2022, 2023 and 2024, underscoring his sustained international influence in Applied Mathematics and related fields.
