Scientists urged to focus on research with socio-economic impact

LAHORE: (Monday, February 21, 2022): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has urged the scientists to focus on those research projects which may positively contribute towards socio-economic development of the society. He was addressing the inaugural session of 4-day fifth international conference organized by Punjab Universe Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics here on Monday. Dean Faculty of Science Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif, Director Prof Dr Saira Riaz, Research Scholars, faculty members and students participated in the event while the scholars from Pakistan and other countries including UK, Germany, China, Brazil etc also attended the conference online. In his address, Prof Niaz said that the student who took admission in the subject of physics have one of the best minds. He said that researchers should focus on research that benefits humanity. He said that we could make our place in the world through our research work and achievements. He said that the centers of excellence, established throughout the country, should be provided more funds so that they could produce better results. He lauded Dr Saira Riaz and her team for organizing the conference and said that such events provide an opportunity for researchers to know and learn from each other's experiences. Dr Muhammad Sharif said that international conferences were the best source to explore latest research work in the relevant fields. He said that scholars from PU Center of Excellence in Solid State Physics are working for the development of the relevant fields after obtaining M Phil and PhD degrees. Dr Saira Riaz, said that in 4-day int’l conference, 16 nationally and internationally renowned researchers will express their research work on various topics in 8 technical sessions. She said that 216 posters and 184 oral presentations would be presented at the conference. She thanked PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmed for his cooperation for the conference and hoped that the conference would be beneficial for the young scholars and students.
