PU organizes moot on “Human Rights, Local Culture & Globalism”
LAHORE: (Tuesday, March 13, 2012): Punjab University Department of Institute of Social & Cultural Studies in collaboration with Department of Human Rights & Minority Affairs, Govt of the Punjab organized a National Conference on “Human Rights, Local Culture & Globalism” here on Tuesday at Faisal Auditorium. PU VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran was Chief Guest on the occasion. Secretary, Department of Human Rights & Minority Affairs Govt of the Punjab, Arshad Bin Ahmad, Principal Aitcheson College Prof Dr Muhmmad Hafeez, Prof Dr Zikria Zakir, renowned analyst Orya Mqbool Jan, former IGP Azhar Hassan Nadeem, Acting Director of ISCS Dr Riffat Munawar senior faculty members and a large number of students were also present on the occasion. Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the terms like globalization, globalism, New World Order and One World Government have erupted after the dissolution of the Soviet Union on the instance of the international bankers cabal. He said that the cabal had devised these terms as a deception to make their plans acceptable. He said a set of families interrelated by marriages were making persistent efforts to be able to rule mankind. He said that these banking families had learned the value of anonymity, deception and knowledge to enslave mankind. He said that they stayed behind the scenes and now there strategy was very simple. He said that the US and NATO were their tools for subjugation of mankind. He said that now their strategy was to ensure dictatorship in US and war abroad. He said that human rights in the US had been taken away after signing of National Defense Authorization Act by President Obama as a result the writ of Habeas Corpus was finished. He said that the act had empowered US security forces to arrest a person anywhere in the world on suspicion of terrorism even for life and there could be no appeal in military or any other court of law. He said that they were now passing a law regarding Criminalization of Protests in America and Occupy Wall Street Movement had led to this legislation and that would take away the right of free speech and protest in America. He said that we should not be misled as social science researches in the western countries were funded and controlled by these families through foundations. He said that they drove the research in certain directions and the people who did not agree with them were denied jobs. He said that all this should be in our mind when we look at the terms like globalization. He said they were now thinking of installing chips in human beings so that they could locate them wherever they were. Principal Aitcheson College Prof Dr Muhammad Hafeez said that globalization is reality in today’s world and it was based on globalism. He said that globalization was a process and globalism was based on ideology having its own values. He said certain regularizations in universal declaration of Human Rights were not compatible and we should understand these concepts to address human rights issues. He said that social and cultural values were linked with each other and created demands. He said that local culture tended to resist values being propagated from the other parts of the world. He said that forces of change were constant and we should transform the change for the benefit of global system and quality of life. He said that we should be respective of new ideas and also should take care of our values. Secretary Human Rights Mr Arshad said that globalization was an evolutionary process through which societies progressed from tribe to state and the global village. He said that now there were rules to govern a society. He said that our culture was not too different with the universal declaration of human rights. He said that in the past few years, Pakistan was branded as a terrorist state or a terror sponsor whereas the recent Oscar Award to Sharmeen Chinay portrayed enlightened image of Pakistan. He said that Indus Valley culture was very rich and there was no reason why should we not bring out that culture again. He said that Pakistan was a peace loving country and people from other areas used to come there in search of peace. He said that the region had been a seat of learning and now we should continue with the developed countries as now we were out of isolation.Renowned analyst Oriya Maqbool Jan said that media was being used as a tool and when we talk of freedom of speech, it took us away from reality. He said that a woman being lashed out in Pakistan was seen against humanity but the tyranny and sexual torture on women and children in was not being broadcasted by the media. Former IG Punjab Police Dr Azhar Hassan Nadeem said that most of human rights violations were occurring in Punjab and the government should take steps for this. Dr Zikria Zakir said that globalization had destroyed local structure. He said that knowledge was creating inequalities. He said that the concept of nation state was no more then how could we protect the changing concept of human rights. He said that globalization was neither positive nor negative but should observe its process.
