Professor
Prof. Dr. Nasir Abbas

Dr. Nasir Abbas is graduated in bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, in 2002. He did his Masters in Pharmaceutical Analysis from University of the Strathclyde, Glagow, UK. He got distinction in Masters which earned him GSK and EastChem awards for pursuing PhD at University of the Edinburgh. During his PhD he has got a chance to work in world renowned facilities at GSK Stevenage, UK and Diamond Synchrotron Radiation Facility, UK. In 2010 he returned to Pakistan and joined Ripah International University, Islamabad. Where, he was actively involved in teaching and research of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In 2013, Dr. Nasir joined PUCP, University of the Punjab as Assistant Professor. He is taking theory and practical classes of Physical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Preparation, Quality Management and Pharmaceutical Technology courses at undergraduate level. His teaching activities also extend to postgraduate courses (M. Phil & PhD) in Pharmaceutics. Eight students have completed their M Phil under his supervision. Currently three PhD and four M. Phil scholars are working under his supervision. He is coordinating postgraduate program and In-charge of College Admissions.
His research interests include solid state studies of Pharmaceutical compounds by various characterization techniques such as XRD, PXRD, Raman spectroscopy, THz spectroscopy, DSC and Infrared spectroscopy. Formulation development is another area of his interest. His group is working in the field of crystal engineering, e.g., co-crystallization, polymorphism and amorphization of Pharmaceutical compounds. Solubility enhancement of poorly soluble drugs by various methods, e.g., solid dispersion, milling, polymorph screening and nanotechnological approaches are also his areas of research. He has expertise in crystallography at powder and single crystal levels. Recently he has been awarded with a research project funded by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in the field of co-crystallization.
