Prof. Dr. Fatima Rasool

Professor
Prof. Dr. Fatima Rasool
Dr. Fatima Rasool is working as Professor in Punjab University College of Pharmacy, University of the Punjab, Lahore. She joined the department in 2009 as Lecturer. In 2012 she was promoted to Assistant Professor, in 2020 to Associate Professor and in 2023 to Professor. Dr. Fatima's research interest is to develop modified release dosage forms and targeted drug delivery systems, such as nanoparticles, nanoconjugates etc. Her research uses multidisciplinary approaches including computer modelling and simulation with a focus on molecular simulations as well as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles for pre-formulation and preclinical evaluations of novel drug combinations and drug delivery systems.  Currently her research focuses on phase transformations, interactions between assembled structures and how assembled structures can be perturbed.
More broader applications of her research include prediction of properties and behaviour of chemical and pharmaceutical systems, in particular drug delivery. The development of these predictive approaches enables us to predict, optimise, and/or control the macroscopic properties and behaviour of chemical/pharmaceutical systems and processes on a rational basis, thus reducing both the factorial space and experimental effort to fewer and better experiments.
Prior to joining University of the Punjab, she worked as a Hospital Pharmacist at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur. She also taught and conducted research in Islamia University Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur and Hamdard Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Islamabad. She was awarded Indigenous Ph.D. Fellowship from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for her Ph. D. studies. She was also nominated by HEC for the UNESCO- L'OREAL scholarship for young women in Life Sciences for the year 2009. She did Post Doctoral Research at Lancaster University, Lancaster, United Kingdom, in 2014-2015. She was also appointed as honorary/visiting faculty at Lancaster University, Lancaster, UK for this period. To her credit she holds more than 70 publications in national and international journals with impact factor. She has presented much of her research work in international conferences held in Pakistan, Brazil, America, England, Turkey, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. She earned several research grants to conduct research and travel grants from University of the Punjab and HEC for oral and poster presentation of research papers in international meetings. She has been a member of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). She is HEC approved PhD supervisor and supervises many M. Phil and Ph. D. students in the department and other universities also. Other than teaching and research activities, she is also actively involved in arranging conferences, seminars and events for students' extra-curricular activities. She is incharge of performing arts society and coordinator of the postgraduate program in PUCP.
