PU VC inaugurates new block at CEES


LAHORE: (Wednesday, October 22, 2014): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has inaugurated new block at College of Earth and Environmental Sciences here on Wednesday. Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Science Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, Principal College of Earth and Environmental Sciences Prof Dr Firdous e Barin, Prof Emeritus Masood Aslam Mian, faculty members, senior officials and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that there were irregularities in the college in the past but now the situation had improved. He said that he was happy to know that around 14 percent of the students of the college are PhD students which was an encouraging figure. He said that now the college was making rapid progress, research work was being promoted and the problems of students had been solved. He lauded the services of Prof Dr Firdous-e-Barin, Dr Masood Aslam Mian and other faculty members for the achievements made in the recent years. In her presentation, Dr Firdous-e-Barin briefed the participants on the history of the college and highlighted various achievement made in the recent years. She said that the college administration had revised the curriculum on modern lines and there were 87 currently students pursing their PhDs while 3 had completed their doctorate. She said that under an agreement with Punjab government and a Chinese company, the college would produce energy resources through a biogas project and aimed at providing CNG on commercial basis. Dr Masood Aslam thanked PU VC for his support to the college and announced four more scholarships for the students. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran also distributed cash prizes among the lower grade employees of the college on showing excellent performance. Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran inaugurated the new academic block. The block consists of a conference room, 5 laboratories and faculty offices on the first floor of the college.
