Institute of Geography Students Win First Position at DEWTE 2025 Digital Cartography Competition
Students at the Institute of Geography, University of the Punjab, achieved a significant milestone by securing First Position in the Digital Cartography and Story Maps Competition held during DEWTE 2025 (Disaster Early Warning Tech Expo). The competition took place on 10–11 December 2025 at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters, Islamabad, and featured participation from universities across Pakistan. The winning team comprised Ms. Saira Parveen, Ms. Shaista Kiran, and Mr. Shahzaib Ali, students of BS ADP 7th Semester, Institute of Geography. Their project demonstrated strong cartographic design, geospatial analysis, and effective storytelling in the context of disaster risk and early warning, securing them First Position along with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. In the attached photograph from the award ceremony, the team can be seen receiving the prize, where in the top main image, Ms. Saira Parveen appears second from the left, followed by Ms. Shaista Kiran, and then Mr. Shahzaib Ali. The team was supervised by Dr. Adeel Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Institute of Geography. The Director of the Institute of Geography, Prof. Dr. Isma Younes, congratulated the students on their outstanding achievement and appreciated their hard work, creativity, and excellent representation of the Institute at a national forum.
