PU CEES marks World Tourism Day


LAHORE: (Tuesday, September 27, 2022): In connection with the World Tourism Day, Punjab University Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management at College of Earth & Environmental Sciences organized an event with the theme of “rethinking tourism” on Tuesday. A bunch full of activities including presentations, arts competitions, quizzes and others exciting activities regarding awareness about tourism were the part of it.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab Mr Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Principal CEES Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, Masood Ali Khan, Rana Tahir, Dr Muhammad Kamran, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
The speakers were of the view that tourism is not only visiting places, but in fact gathering information, knowledge and skills of different places locally and globally to benefit each other and empower diverse communities to collaborate for a better world. Umar Sarfaraz Cheema briefed about the government policies related to sustainable tourism while Masood Ali Khan shed light on tourism potential of Pakistan. In his address Rana Tahir described the role of TDCP to promote tourism in Punjab.
Prof Dr Sajid Rashid said that the interest and enthusiastic participation of the students reflected that the tourism industry was surely going to have a strong support of students equipped with knowledge and information required for tourism industry being delivered in academic programs. The students pledged for a strong support to take this industry to a high level ahead. Mr Rashid said that the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the global body responsible for tourism, has been celebrating tourism day since 1980. He said that the International Day of Tourism this year will focus on re-imagining the sector's growth, both in terms of size and relevance. He said that the key theme of year 2022 is EDI that is equity, diversity and inclusion and PU is already well operational these EDI indicators. The students of Tourism & Hospitality management will try to promote these EDI with rethinking of tourism.
