Prof. Dr. Zahoor Qadir Samra

Dr. Zahoor Qadir Samra joined the Centre for Advanced Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, (now known as Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology) in 1986 as a Research Officer. In 1989, he got an opportunity of pre-doctoral training in the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati, USA. Here, he studied the effect of ischemia / reperfusion and calcium on heart disease by using monoclonal antibody production by hybridoma technology, mammalian cell culture, Immuno-cytochemical transmission and scanning electron microscopic techniques. After joining the CEMB in 1991, established the advanced molecular immunology lab for diagnostic study, animal cell culture and supplying the immunodiagnostic reagents / materials for other scientists. He also developed many immunodiagnostic materials for Bt-Cotton, Hepatitis B Surface antigen, immunoassays for transgenic plants and insects. In 2002, He joined the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of the Punjab, In IBB, area of my research work is post harvesting technology of industrial important recombinant proteins, enzymes through magnetic nanomaterials. Different students are working on theranostic nanomedicines for targeting drug delivery in cancer by using magnetic, gold, silver and quantumdot nanoparticles. Now-a-days, research is underway for the development of immunodiagnostic strip of Cry2b gene. In addition, edible vaccines for SEB toxin, VacA and CagA proteins of Helicobacter pylori, Aeromonas hydrophila for fish farming and Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale for chicken are in process. Dr. Zahoor Qadir Samra is a HEC approved supervisor. He has a number of publications in national and international journals.
