Dr. Ahmed Usman
Dr. Ahmed Usman is currently Associate Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies, University of the Punjab Lahore. He holds a PhD in Sociology from University of Leeds, UK and Masters in Sociology, with distinction, from University of the Punjab Lahore. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Warwick, UK and Scholar-in-residence at the Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict, Arizona State University, USA. His research interests are interdisciplinary and include social stratification, gender and violence, sociology of health and illness, and political sociology. He has published more than 75 research papers in different HEC recognized and impact factor peer-reviewed journals that include high reputed journals such as BMC Public Health, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, Journal of Family Violence, Computers in Human Behavior, Anthropological Notebooks, Anthropologist, Iranian Journal of Public Health, and Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment. He has presented his research work in more than 50 national and international conferences in different parts of the world including some prestigious scholarly platforms such as Asian Studies Annual Conference and Annual Conference on South Asia at University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. His teaching focuses upon qualitative research methods that he teaches at PhD, MPhil, MSc, and BS levels. Parallel to this, Dr. Usman teaches the courses on global studies, culture and development, gender studies and cultural anthropology. He is currently involved in consultancy work with the World Bank in the area of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation in the context of infrastructure development projects in Pakistan. Dr. Usman has the experience of working with other national and international organizations including International Labor Organization (ILO), The Deutsche Gesellschaft Fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Germany, and Population Council Pakistan on different operational research projects. He is the approved PhD supervisor of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and has supervised 8 PhD, 175 MPhil and 160 MA/BS dissertations during his teaching career at University of the Punjab Lahore.
