Dr. Umar Farooq received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the university of engineering and technology Lahore in 2004 and 2011, respectively. He received the PhD degree in electrical engineering from Dalhousie university, Canada in 2017. Dr. Farooq is the senior most teacher of electrical engineering at university of the Punjab Lahore. He joined the department of electronics and telecommunications engineering at university of the Punjab Lahore in May 2006 as Lecturer and played a central role in successfully managing the zero visit of Pakistan engineering council in the capacity of Incharge of the department of electronics and telecommunications engineering. The department of electronics and telecommunications engineering was renamed as the department of electrical engineering in 2009 in the light of recommendations of the Pakistan engineering council and Dr. Farooq was appointed as Assistant professor of electrical engineering in Aug 2011. Now, he is working as Associate professor of electrical engineering at the Institute of electrical, electronics and telecommunications engineering, University of the Punjab Lahore.
Dr. Farooq has more than 15 years of experience in effectively teaching the undergrad courses of electrical engineering. He has contributed significantly in uplifting the department of electrical engineering. Dr. Farooq has rigorously trained undergrad students of electrical engineering to participate in technical contests and students have won a total of 76 awards in these contests for university of the Punjab Lahore in a period of four years only (2008-2012). Dr. Farooq has also won the prestigious Nova Scotia Graduate Scholar Award and Faculty of Engineering Excellence Award during his PhD studies abroad.
