Microelectronics Research Centre (MERC) establish in collaboration with Centre for Solid State Physics. Microelectronics is the technology of today and provides basis for Nanotechnology research to be used for future electronic devices. The field of electronics devices has developed fast into an industry during the 20th century. The sales of electronics components/devices reached over a trillion dollars towards the end of the century. Computers and peripherals share some 35-40% of the total sale.
