PU delegation met Rector of Bielefeld University


On the invitation of the Rector Bielefeld University, Germany, a four member delegation from Punjab University visited Bielefeld University to strengthen collaborative relations with German system of higher education from November 3-9, 2014. The delegation from PU consisted of the Vice Chancellor (Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran), Dean Faculty of Law (Prof. Dr. Shazia Qureshi), Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakar), and country coordinator of collaborative research project (Dr. Rubeena Zakar). In order to further strengthen the teaching and research collaboration with the Bielefeld University, the delegation from PU held a meeting with the Rector Prof. Dr. Gerhard Sagerer. The meeting was also attended by senior academic and administrative staff of Bielefeld University including Prof. Dr. Heitmeyer and Dr. Thomas Lüttenberg, Head of the International Office.

In the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran pointed out that Punjab University has been spending substantial financial resources to brush up the research capability of its academic staff. For this, Bielefeld University will be a very valuable partner, added the Vice Chancellor.

The Rector Bielefeld University highlighted the infrastructural and human resource capacity of his institution and also shed light on the state of the art research facilities especially in areas of robotic science, intelligent technical aid and biotechnology. The Rector underlined his policy of internationalization of Bielefeld University and appreciated Punjab University of its proactive role in forging collaborative relations with Bielefeld University.

It may be mentioned that the ISCS (Sociology), University of the Punjab has been conducting comparative multi-country research on “violence and development” in collaboration with Bielefeld University. The findings of the research will help the international community to understand the causes and consequences of violence in comparative and cross-cultural context. The research results will be published in leading and high impact factor international journals.
