No fee, hostel and transport issue at PU: spokesman

LAHORE: (Tuesday, November 18, 2014): A Punjab University spokesman has said that there is no issue of hostel accommodation, fee and transport but the real matter is that whenever a disciplinary action is taken against any Islami Jamiat Talaba Nazim or FIR is registered against them, the IJT activists try to pressurize administration through such tactics with the help of outsiders. But, the spokesman said, the administration had accepted their pressure neither in the past nor in the future. The spokesman said that Islami Jamiat Talaba did not represent PU students as a very small number of students were IJT members and almost all male and female students had rejected them. The spokesman said that a political party and some other elements were instigating IJT activists. The spokesman said that under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Punjab University had not increased tuition fee in the last 7 years and was charging lowest fee as compared to all other public and private sector universities. He said that in terms of utility charges, PU was not shifting burden to the pocket of poor students and providing subsidies and scholarships worth millions of rupees. He said PU had the largest transport system with 60 buses in its fleet and was providing travel facilities to the students on the lowest rates. He said that all the morning students were being provided with hostel accommodation on merit and PU was charging minimum fees and providing maximum subsidy as compared to other public and private sector universities. He said that it was clearly published in the admission advertisement that the students of evening classes shall not be provided with hostel accommodation.
