LHC misguided in Plagiarism case: PU spokesman

LAHORE: (Friday, September 16, 2016): A Punjab University spokesman has said that Mr. Saad Rasool Advocate had deliberately concealed facts from the Honorable LHC in a plagiarism case on September 15, 2016. Mr. Saad Rasool had given the impression that instead of considering the plagiarism complaint the PU had held a Selection Board meeting to consider the case of appointment of Professor of Commerce. The spokesman stated that in compliance with the order passed by a single bench of the LHC in WP 25453/2016, a notice was issued on August 29, 2016 for a meeting of the Selection Board to be held on Sep 3, 2016, as the LHC had directed that such a meeting be held within 15 days of the receipt of the order. Two days after the issuance of the notice of the Selection Board meeting, a plagiarism complaint against the petitioner was received in the Registrar’s office. It was, after approval of the Vice Chancellor, marked to the plagiarism committee without delay. It was marked to the Plagiarism Committee before the Selection Board meeting. The Selection Board was duly informed of the plagiarism complaint in its meeting of September 3. The Plagiarism Committee sought a plagiarism report from the Main Library of the PU, which first checks all such complaints using its software. After receiving the report from the Main Library, the Plagiarism Committee held its first meeting on Sep 8, 2016. The next and the final meeting is to be held soon after the University reopens on 19 Sep. The decision of the Plagiarism Committee will then be communicated to the HEC. The spokesman said that Mr. Saad Rassol was in the habit of concealing and distorting facts in all cases pertaining to PU. The University was considering filing a complaint with the Punjab Bar Council about Mr. Saad Rasool against his professional misconduct, he added.
