LAHORE: (Wednesday, May 6, 2015): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali and Maulana Shibli Naumani are big names of Urdu literature and their teachings and thoughts must be promoted among the young generation. He was addressing a seminar organized by PU Department of Urdu at Sherani Hall here on Wednesday.

Renowned intellectual Intzaar Hussain, Prof Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakria Dean Oriental Learning Prof Dr Ismatullah Zahid, Chairman Department of Urdu Dr Muhammad Kamran, faculty members and a large number of renowned writers and students were present on the occasion.

In his address, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that people learnt a lot from the activities of Oriental College and the presence of Mr Intzaar Hussain in the seminar was a source of honor. In his address, Mr Intzaar Hussain said that Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali and Maulana Shibli Naumani laid foundation stone of critique in Urdu literature and it was their great service for development of Urdu literature.

They said that such activities must be organized to create awareness regarding teachings of Maulana Haali and Shibli among the people. Presenting his research paper, Prof Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakria said that there was no match of Maulana Hali who could write very well both in prose and poetry. He said that it was difficult to decide that whether Maulana Hali was a good prose writer or poet? He said that Maulana Hali had a good command on scientific prose writing as well and “Masdas-e-Hali” was his renowned masterpiece. Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Urdu Department Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran said that living nations always remembered their heroes and we must acknowledge the services of Maulana Haali and Shibli which they had rendered for promotion of Urdu literature. He thanked PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran on for his support for organizing seminar and conferences for promotion of oriental learning and research.
