Need to change mindset to ensure human rights: Minister


LAHORE: (Wednesday, March 11, 2020): Punjab Minister for Human Rights Ejaz Alam Augustin has said that there was need to bring change in the mindset of the people to ensure provision of human rights. He was addressing a seminar organized by PU Department of Gender Studies, Ministry of Human Rights and Christian Care Foundation in connection with International Women's Day held at Al Raazi Hall on Wednesday. Member Provincial Assembly Ayesha Iqbal, Regional Director Ministery of Human Rights Ms Lubna Mansoor, Chairperson Department of Gender Studies Dr Raa’na Malik, Chairman Christian Care Foundation Tanveer Yaqoob, members from NGOs, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the event. Addressing the seminar, Mr Alam said that it was a good omen that now issues of women's rights were being discussed in our society. He said that the faces of women who were attacked with acid could not be seen. He said that there should be strict license regulations for acid sellers. He said that all religions of the world teach human rights and ethics and we must act upon these lessons. He said that men and women must work together for the development of Pakistan. He said that the incumbent government was bringing some other bills for the rights of women. Dr Raana Malik said that the Department of Gender Studies was doing research to suggest solutions to various problems being faced by the women. She said that women at PU had the best environment on the campus.
