To excel in the field of biotechnology, the knowledge of molecular biology is indispensable. Apart from being a part of biotechnology, molecular biology alone has led to numerous crucial discoveries about human genetics and microbial genetics, giving insights about diseases and their possible cures.

Molecular biology is a core subject at department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. The need of the hour is that this knowledge should be disseminated in sister departments especially in colleges where research work is limited. The invaluable interactions and trainings could broadened the vision of students and enhance the research skills and communications with other labs. To achieve such a goal, a group of students from Govt. Science College, Wahdat road, Lahore, were helped to understand few concepts and related techniques of molecular biology by Dr. Zakia and her PhD student Mr. Atif in department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics. They learnt the Plasmid DNA isolation from different bacteria. The plasmid was isolated by using manual method and its quality and yield was checked by agarose gel electrophoresis technique, which is most important and perhaps is an indispensable technique of molecular biology. Students were also engaged in extremely interesting and knowledgeable discussion with Dr Zakia and her students.
