Army, nation and leadership jointly contributed to win 1965 War: speakers LAHORE: (Tuesday, September 8, 2015): Former Army generals, air marshals, naval chief and other speakers have said that Pak Army had unprecedented passion of martyrdom, nation was united and full of spirit and quality leadership during 1965 War helped Pakistan defeat the enemy many times bigger than her. They were addressing a seminar jointly organized by Punjab University and Pakistan National Forum at Al Raazi Hall here on Tuesday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the seminar while President Pakistan National Forum Col (r) Ikram Ullah Khan, former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral (r) Yastoor ul Haq, Lt. Gen (r) Naseer Akhtar, former Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Zafar A Chaudhary, former Corps Commander Lt. Gen (r) Humayun Bangash, former Air Vice Marshal (r) Amjad Hussain, S. M. Zafar, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. The heroes of 1965 War shared the glorious moments of the war which made the participants highly emotional. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that President Ayub’s 1:40-minute speech emotionally aroused the whole nation against Indian invasion and the nation got united. He said that Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s speech on Defense Day was the best speech according to prevailing circumstances of the country. He said that we had the strongest Army which was capable of coping with enemies. He said that the United States and her allies were involved in terrorism and wanted to usurp resources of the world by disintegrating nations. He said that the world was a battlefield where war among nations was indispensable. He said only the nations who prepared themselves for confrontation had been successful. Addressing the ceremony, former Naval Chief Admiral Yasturl Haq Malik said that when he joined Pakistan Navy in 1951, we had a few ships only and we had lack of training facilities. They said that during Rann of Kutch, he was serving in Submarine Ghazi and they were a few miles away from Mumbai and they could easily target Indian ships. However, he said, Pakistan showed responsibility and did not attack as it was not the policy at that time. They said that after September 6, Pakistan Navy destroyed many Indian ships and radar station at Dwarka, accomplished many missions and continued vigilant patrolling despite lack of resources. Lt Gen (r) Naseer Akhter said that we made sacrifices during 1965 War. He said that our Army was strong and fighting a big war nowadays. He said that we can defeat India on any front and our borders were safe. Air Vice Marshal (r) Amjad Hussain said that Pakistan had only 3 airbases while India had 8 airbases in 1965. He said that Pakistan had 136 aircrafts and India had 580 warplanes while Pakistan had a poor radar system and we used to alert each other through a wireless set by listening to the noise of warplanes. He said that our enemy was coward and was fearing of Pakistan Air Force. He said that Pakistan Air Force would never disappoint our nation. Former Air Marshal Zafar Chaudhry said that the leadership of Pakistani commanders ensured our win and our enemy could not materialize its dreams. He said that Pakistan Air Force had clearly established its superiority during the War. Humayun Bangash said that Pakistani soldiers wanted to fight despite injuries. He said that the nation was united at that time and our leadership was playing its role for the development of the country. He said that we needed to unite our nation today. S.M. Zafar said that Operation Zarb Azb and improving situation of Balochistan and Karachi were bringing good news for the nation. He said that India attacked Pakistan and it was the Indian government that went to the United Nations for ceasefire which was a clear-cut proof of Pakistan’s success in the war.
