PU VC calls for research having socio-economic impact
![]() LAHORE: (Thursday, March 11, 2021): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has urged the researchers to do research having socio-economic impact so that the goals set for development of Pakistan and our society could be achieved. He was addressing the inaugural session of 12th Post Graduate Students’ Conference (PGSC) 2021 with the theme of “Learning Agility for Educational Change” at Waheed Shaeed Hall. The conference was organized by Punjab University Institute of Education and Research on Thursday. On this occasion Dean Faculty of Education Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Director Institute of Education and Research Prof Dr Rafaqat Ali Akber, Prof Dr Farooq Shahid, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the conference. Addressing the conference, Prof Niaz Ahmad said that the research work done by IER had an impact over universities, colleges and schools and this should be shared by other departments too. He said that PU ranking had improved 54 times in QS Asia ranking of universities in just a period of around 2 years. He said that PU was never ranked subject-wise till 2018 and now for the first time, PU’s 13 subjects had been ranked by QS subject-wise. Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry said that teaching methods could not be improved without training of teachers. He said that the researchers must address and explore new avenues in teaching methodologies. He said that the conferences being organized by IER consecutively had provided an excellent platform for researchers to polish their research skills and address research questions which were the need of the hour. Prof Dr Rifaqat Ali Akbar said that the conference had been organized to get updates about the latest development in various relevant fields. He said that we needed to benefit from modern teaching methods. Dr Shahid Farooq presented the aims and objectives of the conference.
