With the foundation of the Punjab University in 1882 the Oriental Faculty was organized in the same year. Later on the Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Learning was established under the University of the Punjab Act 1973. Ph.D., M. Phil and Master programs are being offered in all the departments of the Faculty. An M.Phil program has commenced in the Departments of Persian and Islamic Studies. An M.Phil program will commence from the next academic session in the Department of Arabic and Urdu. In addition to the M.A., M.Phil., a Ph.D., a Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses are also offered in the Departments of Arabic, Urdu, Kashmiriyat and Hindi.
