PU medical college focal person writes to YDA

LAHORE: (Thursday, April 05, 2012): Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, focal person for Punjab University’s proposed medical and dental college, has reacted to press release issued by 13 representatives of young doctors, terming their allegation baseless and demanding the association to have a second look at their hasty action and sending a word of regret.

In his letter to young doctors association he said that the college was being set up as a constituent college of the Punjab University, which would be run on strictly merit basis and at a low fee structure within the financial reach of poorer section of the community.  He said that no effort whatever was made on the part of the 13 office bearers of Young Doctors Association to verify the matter either from the Vice Chancellor or the focal person of the project. He said that before leveling such gross charges and that too before the finalization of the Medical Complex plan, all this is unethical to say the least. He wrote that the first inaugural meeting of setting up a medical and dental college complex was presided over by the worthy Vice Chancellor on 2nd April at 4pm at the Committee Room and it was participated by 20 senior most medical doctors of great name and prestige. They expressed their approval and perfect satisfaction at the setting up of the projected college, which is likely to materialize in a couple of years. They also promised to extend unqualified support during the course of the project and even after that on honorary basis.

He said that such futile efforts on the part of 13 representatives of ‘Youngish Doctors Association’ indicate want of experience and patience. He hoped that the association might have a second look at their hasty action and send the university a word of regret.

He said that according to the vision of a true Educationist (Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran) having compassion and care for poorer section of population who has made available a lot of scholarships to the needy ones purely on merit basis to promote the cause of education. Further, he said, no fee of any level in the university had been enhanced for the last four years, indicating service outlook of the administration of the University of the Punjab.

He said that all the above facts have been lime lighted in our both Urdu and English press releases of the Punjab University dated April 2, 2012. Being a teacher, he said, he wish to advise the office bearers of the Young Doctors Association to leave no stone unturned as far as the welfare of young doctors was concerned.
