Two days national inter-universities technical competition, METACOMP 2.0


Society of Metallurgical and Material Engineers (SOMAME), University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore organized two days national inter-universities technical competition, METACOMP 2.0 from 28-29 February, 2024 in Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, UET, Lahore with four different modules i.e. Metallography, Simulation, Poster and Quiz competition. In the Metallography Competition held on 28th February 2024, almost 15 teams participated in the competition form University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, University of the Punjab, Lahore and Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan. Each team displayed the microstructure of the metallic materials used in daily life for different engineering applications.
The Manganese team lead by Hassaan Ahmed and Muhammad Muizz ul Haq, undergraduate students of B.Sc (Engg) Metallurgy and Materials from Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME), Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore presented the microstructure of casted Ni-based dental implants and secured second position in the competition. The team was mentor by Dr. Ameeq Farooq, Assistant Professor, Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME), Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore. The team was awarded with cash prize of Rs.10, 000/-, souvenir and certificates. The judges and organizers were impressed by the efforts students put into the project and appreciated their enthusiasm and passion for participating in the competition. In the closing session, the mentor of the team Dr. Ameeq Farooq, congratulate the winning teams and appreciate the efforts of the SOMAME, UET for organizing such an excellent competition. He further emphasized to conduct such technical competitions which generate a healthy activity for the students and they learn more knowledge about their engineering in a very short time span.
