Special Seminar on Urdu Language and Literature at the Department of Urdu, University of Dhaka

Dhaka, Bangladesh - A special literary session was held at the Department of Urdu, University of Dhaka, on November 19, 2025, under the title "Urdu in the Present Era". The seminar was organized by the Department of Urdu, University of Dhaka, in collaboration with the Pakistan High Commission, Dhaka.

The session was chaired by Dr. Ghulam Moula, Head of the Department of Urdu, and featured keynote speakers Dr. Baseera Ambreen, Director of the Institute of Urdu Language and Literature, Punjab University Oriental College, Pakistan, and Dr. Waheed ur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Studies, University of Education.

Dr. Baseera Ambreen shed light on the thought of Allama Iqbal and informed the participants about the important sources of understanding Iqbal's philosophy. She also drew attention to important aspects of learning the Urdu language. Dr. Waheed ur Rahman expressed his views on Urdu language and literature and highlighted the study of important Urdu books.

The seminar included presentations by students, including a recitation of a famous poem by Mirza Ghalib and verses by Allama Iqbal. A question-and-answer session was also held, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the speakers.

The event was attended by faculty members, including Dr. Ghulam Rabbani, Dr. Hafsah Akhtar, Dr. Rashid Ahmed, Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Dr. Hussain Al-Banna, and Muhammad Shafiq ul-Hassan Shahab, as well as a large number of students.
The seminar aimed to promote Urdu language and literature, and to explore its relevance in the present era. The speakers highlighted the importance of Urdu language and literature, its global status, and the love of Bangladeshi students for Urdu. The event provided a platform for intellectual discourse and exchange of ideas, and strengthened the literary and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The honored guests presented their books and Pakistani cultural gifts to the faculty members of the Department of Urdu, which were accepted with great pleasure and respect. The guests were bid farewell with great honor and respect by the Department of Urdu.
The seminar was a significant event in promoting Urdu language and literature, and will be remembered as a milestone in the history of the Department of Urdu, University of Dhaka.
On this occasion, the guests also met with Dr. Mumit Al Rashid, Chairman of the Department of Persian, and exchanged literary books, further strengthening the academic and cultural ties between the departments.
