80th Independence Day Celebrations August 14, 2026

Pakistan emerges as new global power: PU VC

LAHORE: (Friday, August 14, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali has said that Maarka-e-Haq, Islamabad talks, Makkah Defence Accord have made Pakistan a new global power. He said that Pakistan has also emerged as a peacemaker on the world stage and helped save the world from a great war. He was addressing a flag-hoisting ceremony organized by Punjab University to mark the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan. PU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Saleem, Registrar Dr. Ahmad Islam, faculty members, administrative officers, employees and their families participated in the ceremony. Addressing the gathering, PU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali said that Independence Day was a day of renewing our commitment and making promises to our homeland. He said that Pakistanis had always been proud of being Pakistani, adding that “we exist because Pakistan exists.” He said that we were at such a historic juncture that no matter how much we expressed our pride in Pakistan, it would still not be enough. He said that the “Battle of Truth” in May 2025 had raised Pakistan’s stature across the world. He said that the Makkah Agreement was a major achievement for Muslim countries and Pakistan. He added that Pakistan was now moving towards progress, for which the Pakistani leadership deserved congratulations. Paying tribute to the Armed Forces of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali said that the nation was proud of its martyrs, veterans and leadership. He reaffirmed that PU would continue to play its role in the development and progress of the country. Later, PU VC inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting a sapling. A special prayer was also offered for the security, prosperity and progress of the country.

Hailey College of Banking and Finance Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Zeal and Patriotism

A dignified ceremony was held at Hailey College of Banking and Finance, University of the Punjab to mark the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan.

The ceremony was presided over by the College Principal, Dr. Ahmed Muneeb Mehta. On this occasion, along with faculty members and administrative staff, he cut the cake to celebrate the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ahmed Muneeb Mehta said that Pakistan’s independence is the result of the timeless sacrifices of our forefathers. To fulfill the vision of the Founder of Pakistan, we must move forward with hard work, honesty, and national unity. He urged that we all must play a positive role in the country's development.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for the security, progress, and prosperity of Pakistan.

A large number of faculty members and staff of Hailey College of Banking and Finance attended the event. The participants raised slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” with great enthusiasm.

PU organizes blood donation camp

LAHORE: (Wednesday, August 12, 2026): In connection with the 80th Independence Day celebrations of Pakistan, the Punjab University Health Centre, in collaboration with the Red Crescent Foundation, organized a blood donation camp on Wednesday. PU Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tahseen Zamir Ali inaugurated the volunteer blood donation camp. A team of doctors and medical staff was also present on the occasion. A large number of participants enthusiastically donated blood in response to the organizers’ call, contributing to efforts to support children and other patients suffering from various illnesses. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tahseen Zamir Ali said that every individual had a responsibility to help people facing difficulties in life. She said donating blood was a noble act of kindness and an important contribution towards saving the lives of patients in need. She appreciated the participants for their spirit of volunteerism and said that the PU Health Centre would continue its efforts to serve the university community and contribute to broader social welfare initiatives.
