T he institute of chemistry was established under the name of University chemical laboratories in June, 1923.Over the past years the institute of chemistry has privilege to produce many eminent scientist of National and International repute. The graduate of this institute are holding positions of eminence in education R & D Organizations and industries as well as in administration at home and abroad. The collection of the library was very small in the beginning and only few hundreds books were available for the students but with the institute's development the library was also developed and now its collection rose to 18000 volumes. The library building which was single storied also upgraded and now a fully furnish double story building is there equipped with the air conditioners and computer lab. The present name “Dr.A.Q.Khan Library” was given to library in 2010 for acknowledging the services of Dr.A.Q.Khan to Pakistan.

The library has the collection of more than 18000 books. The library also has the more than 10000 issues of the different journals (Old & new).

Library Membership is offered to all the enrolled students of Institute of Chemistry along with faculty members. Specialist staff is available to help you to use the services in the most effective way possible.

Library has the computer lab equipped with the latest computers available for the students and researchers.

This section is the back bone of library services and plays a vital role to provide books to library users. The library users may contact the Librarian regarding the matters related to library membership, fine and clearance, general books and thesis etc. The new arrivals are placed near the library circulation counter. The library is fully computerized. The users can also find the library catalogue on the Punjab University Library web sight at URL

The first floor of the library building is used for the reference section.

The reference tools like encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, journals etc, are placed in this section for the ease of library users. These reference sources can be consulted within the library and may not be borrowed.

Dr.A.Q.Khan Library houses about 4000 thesis and dissertations. The Library receives a copy of all Thesis of the degrees of Ph.D,MS/M.Phil ,M.Sc. and BS/B.Sc (Hons.).

Thesis can be consulted within the Library; they cannot be borrowed or photocopied.

The photocopy facility is available in the Institute. On payment basis from where the users can get the photocopy subject to the copyright law. It is possible to enlarge and reduce copies. Color photocopying and printing facility is also available.

The library subscribes the newspapers for the students one English and two urdu newspapers are available in the library for the users. Previous issues are available in the Library for consultation.

There is one senior librarian and other senior and junior helping staff in the library for helping and guiding the users.
