Co-curricular activities to help polish talent: PU VC


LAHORE: (Thursday, March 12, 2020): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Akhtar has said that co-curricular activities are very important for students because it provides a platform to them for polishing their talent in various fields. He was addressing prize distribution ceremony of 3rd All Pakistan Co-curricular competitions at Al-Raazi Hall on Thursday. The event was organized by Punjab University, NAB, HEC and the Educationist. On this occasion University of Baltistan Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Government College University Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Kamal, PU Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Director National Accountability Bureau Rafiq Memon, Director Institute of Agricultural Sciences Dr Muhammad Salim Haider, Director Institute of Communication Studies Dr Noshina Saleem, Editor-In-Chief the Educationist Dr Shafiq Jullandhry, Assistant Professor Dr Shabbir Sarwar, faculty members and a large number of students were present. Addressing the ceremony, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad said that participation of students from all provinces and Azad Kashmir gave the lesson of brotherhood. Prof Dr Naeem Khan said that it was really a big achievement to provide a unique opportunity of co-curricular activities to the students from all over Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He also offered to host the next competition at University of Baltistan, Skardu. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar said that Punjab University would continue to appreciate such events in future as well. He said that our youth was the most valuable asset of Pakistan. NAB Director Awareness Rafique Memon said that NAB was working for eliminating corruption from Pakistan and this war could be fought with the help of students. Prof Dr Shafiq Jullandhry thanked PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad for extending full support to the competitions. Dr Shabbir Sarwar said that the event has been organized in collaboration with Punjab University, Punjab Higher Education Commission and NAB to promote healthy activities in Pakistan where students could utilize their energies in a positive manner. He said that around 1900 students participated in the competitions from every nook and corner of the country in which 450 competitions were held. At university level, Government College University Faisalabad won first position while Punjab University remained runner up. In school senior category, Punjab School Township obtained first position while Danish School Mianwali obtained second position. In school junior category, Garrison School Sarwar Shaeed Campus got first while The Punjab School obtained second position. Later, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad and others distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winners.
