Seminar held at Institute of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering University of the Punjab on Articial Artificial Intelligence in Marine Robotics

Institute of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore organized a seminar on December, 14, 2023 (Thursday) at 12:30 p.m. on “Articial Artificial Intelligence in Marine Robotics. “Prof. Dr. Francesco Maurelli” was the main guest speaker at the occasion alongwith his two PhD scholars Mr. Hamza and Mr. Waqar Mughal.
Dr. Francesco Maurelli is a Professor in Marine Systems and Robotics at Constructor University, in Bremen (Germany, EU), where he also serves as Program Chair for the Robotics and Intelligent Systems. He also served Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA), as a Marie Curie Fellow.
Prof. Dr. Francesco Murelli discussed about developing algorithms relying around artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques may help in estimating and approximating the environment using low cost sensor. He mentioned that the core of this development was the progress made in the sensors commonly used in such vehicles. However, using performant sensors tend to weight heavily on the final price tag of these vehicles, and on the physical requirements, such as power, to properly operate.
Later, Ph.D scholars Mr. Waqar Mughal and Mr. Hamza discussed their Ph.D work about developing autonomous navigation in underwater robots by leveraging deep learning models to enhance simultaneous localization, mapping and underwater communication.
Prof. Dr. Kamran Abid concluded the event, underscoring the significant potential for collaborations between Punjab University and the Constructor University, Bremen, Germany. He stressed the importance and encouraged students to generate innovative ideas for future collaborative research endeavors.
Faculty members, undergrad and post-grad students from various disciplines mainly from the host institute and Department of Mathematics  attended this event.
