PU VC stresses to create awareness about mental wellbeing


LAHORE: (Wednesday, December 20, 2023): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that a number of human beings are victims of various psychological diseases and for their treatment, psychologists and students must come forward to create awareness for mental wellbeing of the people. He expressed these views while addressing the opening session of the three-day international conference on ‘Mental Health & Rehabilitation: Innovation & Implementation’ organized by Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology at Al Raazi Hall here on Wednesday. On this occasion, Director CCP Prof Dr Saima Dawood, former directors, researchers, psychologists, faculty members and a large number of students were present. In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the services of psychologists can be taken to stop the growing intolerance, anger and violence in the society. He appreciated the efforts of PU CCP for organizing the conference. He said that such events give students an opportunity to learn from the experiences of experts along with being aware of new trends and research. In her address, Prof Dr Saima Dawood paid her gratitude to the VC, former directors, presenters, keynote speakers and presenters of the conference. She said in the three day conference 7 symposiums, 5 keynote addresses and 2 panel discussions of mental health practitioners including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists and 11 scientific sessions with 120 oral and poster presentations would be arranged. She said that the keynote addresses were given by Dr Jenifer Murphy from University of London’s Department of Psychology, Prof Dr Uday K. Sinha from the Department of Clinical Psychology in Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences, Delhi, India, Dr Nimisha Muttah from Department of Disability Studies in University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and Prof Dr Ghazala Rehman, HCPC Registered Practitioner Clinical Psychologist, Visiting Researcher in University of Surrey, UK. In the conference, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Shahid Munir’s message was also read.
