Academia urged to play role in uplifting economy, PU VC


LAHORE: (Wednesday, March 27, 2024): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that teachers and students should play their role to highlight the strength and positive character of the country's economy.

He was addressing in a seminar organized by Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in connection with Pakistan Day and Tree Plantation Campaign. On this occasion, MNA Shaista Parvez Malik, MPA Kanwal Liaqat, Dean Faculty of Geosciences Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider, faculty members and a large number of students were present.

In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that sacrifices are not given only in war, but one should be ready for it in every front of life and today this spirit is needed to get Pakistan out of crises. He said that for us, our educational institution is Pakistan, if we do good research, then the country will definitely develop. He said that Pakistan's defense is in safe hands and the youth need not be disappointed at all. He said that if the young generation moves forward with proper guidance, the respect of the green passport will increase worldwide.
Shaista Pervez Malik said that teachers are great members of the society who contribute towards the development of the world. She said that we all have to work together to deal with the challenges faced by Pakistan. She said that promotion of positive thinking is necessary to end the growing hatred in the society. She said that as politician she could not do as much as she should have done for the country. She said that the culture of intolerance, division and abuse can be defeated by listening to the questions of the youth to end the social divide. She said that women must be given space in every field for the development of the society. She said that students have to learn the art of questioning so that doubts and questions can be put to the politicians in a good manner. She assured to solve the problems related to transport and hostels of PU students.
Kanwal Liaqat expressed hope that the youth will play an active role for the development and prosperity of Pakistan. She said that social media is a powerful tool, the proper use of which is better for the country and the nation. She said that politics is a difficult field and those who criticize politicians should observe civility in their criticism.
Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider said that the talented students of PU are serving in all walks of life. He said that the purpose of organizing the event was to make students aware of the importance of Pakistan Day and tree planting campaign. Earlier, quiz, speech and national song competitions were organized for the students of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Meanwhile, an awareness walk was organized to highlight the importance of plants organized by Punjab University Institute of Geography in which Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Director Prof Dr Isma Younis, faculty members, students and employees were present. In the ceremony, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood and others also planted saplings in connection with the plantation campaign.
