LAHORE: (Sunday, September 22, 2013): Punjab University spokesman has said that the master degree of the Punjab University Institute of Communication Studies (PU-ICS) is fully reorganized by the Higher Education Commission and HEC didn’t reject any degree of PU ICS. He said HEC concern was just on the nomenclature of degree of a few sessions and this objection has already been removed by the PU Academic Council. The spokesman said that due to negligence of former administration of ICS, students of some sessions were issued MS degrees on completion of 16 years education. He said on complaint of a student and serious persuasion of the current management of ICS, the matter was taken up at Board of Studies on June 10, 2013 and then at PU Academic Council on July 3, 2013. The competent authority, Academic Council, has given formal approval to change name of the degree as MSc in Communication Studies from MS in Communication Studies. The spokesman said that HEC has no objection on ‘MSc’ name on completion of 16 years education. He said ICS graduates who were issued MS degree on completion of 16 year education need not to worry at all because a special cell has been established at PU ICS to facilitate them. The spokesman said that PU ICS is amongst the oldest institute of journalism education in the country and ICS has the distinction to produce best and renowned journalists of Pakistan.
