Anemia Free Booth held at PU

LAHORE (Saturday, February 21, 2026): The Punjab University Department of Public Health, in collaboration with Allah Walay Trust and Nutrition & Wellbeing Society, organized an “Anemia Free Booth” to raise awareness about iron deficiency anemia among students. Renowned public health scholar Prof. Dr. Rubina Zakar and Incharge Department of Public Health Dr. Nauman Ali Choudhary, along with faculty members and students, attended the event. Addressing the participants, Dr. Rubina Zakar and Dr. Nauman Ali shared their vision of fostering an anemia-free student body, with active involvement from the 4th semester students of BS Nutrition and Dietetics. An interactive awareness session was conducted by Zoha Aslam, Coordinator of the Nutrition Department at Allah Walay Trust. She highlighted the causes, symptoms, and long-term consequences of iron deficiency anemia, particularly among young women. Students were provided with practical dietary guidance, emphasizing iron-rich foods and effective preventive strategies. An on-the-spot screening camp was also arranged, offering free hemoglobin testing to students, followed by brief individualized counseling based on their results. The initiative successfully promoted awareness, encouraged early detection, and motivated students to take responsibility for their nutritional health.
