LAHORE: (Monday, September 21, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof DR Muhammad Ali inaugurated 100 KW Solar PV System at the College of Earth & Environmental Sciences (CEES) to take significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future. The state-of-the-art solar system is expected to generate clean and renewable electricity, significantly reduce dependence on grid power, achieve estimated annual savings of approximately Rs. 7 million in electricity costs, and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions. The initiative reflects the University’s commitment to sustainable development, energy efficiency, and the advancement of a greener campus. In this regard an inaugural ceremony was held at CEES here on Monday which was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mehmood Saleem, DG Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq Shaikh, Principal CEES Prof. Dr. Irfan Ahmad Shaikh, Secretary Solar Committee Dr. Osama Majeed Butt, President ASA Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi, faculty members, officers, and other distinguished guests. On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali congratulated the PU family on this important achievement and highlighted the growing need for initiatives that promote institutional self-sustainability and responsible resource management. He emphasized that sustainability should not be limited to meeting the University’s energy requirements through renewable sources, but should also encompass water conservation, efficient resource utilization, and other environmentally responsible practices. He stressed that such integrated sustainability initiatives are essential to building a resilient, resource-efficient, and environmentally responsible University for future generations.
