PU PSC organizes seminar on socio-cultural legacy of Mughals

LAHORE: (Thursday, October 01, 2026): Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organized a seminar on “Socio-Cultural Legacy of Mughals in South Asia” in connection with the 500th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Mughal Empire. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ziyodakhon Teshaboeva from Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, Tashkent, Uzbekistan delivered her keynote address online while Chairperson Department of History & Pakistan Studies Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Iftikhar, Director Pakistan Study Centre Prof. Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi, Assistant Professor and moderator Dr. Chaman Hussain, faculty members, researchers and students also participated in the discussion and shared their perspectives. In her online keynote speech, Prof. Dr. Ziyodakhon Teshaboeva focused on Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur’s contribution to the language and literature and elaborated on the broader literary and linguistic contributions of the Mughals. She explored the role of the Mughal rulers and their courts in promoting language, literature, literary patronage and intellectual traditions, thereby contributing to the development and transmission of a rich cultural heritage across Central and South Asia. Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Iftikhar explored the enduring socio-cultural legacies of the Mughal period and highlighted the interaction of Persian, Central Asian and Indian traditions. Her presentation examined the continuing influence of the Mughals on architecture, language and literature, miniature painting, cuisine, music, textiles, fashion, and religious and cultural traditions. She emphasized that Mughal heritage extends beyond political history, with architectural traditions, literary and linguistic developments, artistic practices and cultural forms continuing to shape South Asian society. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi highlighted the significant contributions of the Mughal Empire towards the socio-cultural traditions especially on Art and literature in India. He said that by patronizing art and literature, the Mughal dynasty consolidated their rule through their inclusive approach in society and governance. Unity in Diversity was the hallmark of the Mughal rule, he emphasized.
