PU Press Conference

LAHORE: Punjab University Hall Council Acting Chairman Prof Dr Makshoof Ather has said that only a few non-students elements of Jamiat were trying to occupy some rooms of hostel number 16 and demanded of the police authorities to vacate the rooms from non-student elements. He was addressing a press conference at Undergraduate Study Centre along with PU Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter, wardens and superintendents of various hostels and a few female students. Dr Makshoof said that the students of hostel number 16 had also been provided with alternative rooms but some elements of IJT were challenging the writ of the university.

He said that the number of girls was almost equal to the number of boys and administration did not have funds to build new hostels instantly. He said that girls were facing acute problems and 4 or 5 female students were residing in a room. He said that there was enough space to accommodate boys in the boys hostel and that’s why the hostel was converted to a girls hostel to facilitate female students and their parents also wanted girls to live in PU hostels. Meanwhile, the PU spokesman said that Jamiat always distorted facts, misguided media with lies to the media and did politics on dead bodies. He challenged the IJT’s claim of fake CCTV footage of and said that the footage can be tested through forensic laboratory and if Jamiat proved wrong, it must go to jail otherwise the administration would leave its work. The spokesman said that according to facts, university had progressed in all the academic spheres under the leadership of PU Vice Chancellor more than any public sector university in Pakistan.
