PU PSC organizes seminar

LAHORE: (Tuesday, October 20, 2026): Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre organized a seminar titled “Jinnah’s Leadership: From Independence to Nation-Building,” featuring Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmad Dar, a distinguished historian from the Department of History, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Chaman Hussain, Assistant Professor, Pakistan Study Centre, moderated the session. Addressing the seminar, Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmad Dar described Jinnah as a constitutional and democratic leader whose political vision, determination, and charisma played a decisive role in the creation of Pakistan. He discussed the challenges confronting the newly established state and highlighted Jinnah’s efforts to strengthen its political, economic, judicial, and educational foundations. Prof. Dar emphasized Jinnah’s commitment to institution building through initiatives addressing agriculture, investment, education, health, and sports. He also discussed the development of Pakistan’s judicial framework and argued that the responsibility for framing the country’s first constitution rested with the Constituent Assembly, reflecting Jinnah’s constitutional approach to governance. Highlighting Jinnah’s message to the younger generation, Prof. Dar referred to his address at Islamia College, Peshawar, on April 12, 1948, in which he described students as “the future builders of Pakistan.” He emphasized Jinnah’s call for discipline, character, initiative, and educational excellence, urging students to recognize their responsibility in strengthening the state and contributing to national development. The keynote speaker stressed that Pakistan’s progress required active participation from its citizens, particularly young people, through education, professional integrity, responsible citizenship, and constructive engagement with national challenges. In his address, Director, Pakistan Study Centre Prof. Dr. Amjad Abbas Khan expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmad Dar for sharing his valuable scholarly insights and contributing to an enriching academic discussion. He appreciated the speaker’s participation and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to organizing academic activities that deepen historical understanding and encourage critical engagement with Pakistan’s political and constitutional development. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the keynote speaker, faculty members, and students for their participation.
