Lahore, March 27, 2024 - The Department of Gender Studies at the University of the Punjab proudly hosted a seminar on "Act Now, Save the Planet" in celebration of World Environment Week. The event took place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Munawar Mirza Hall, Department of Gender Studies, PU Lahore.

The seminar, aimed at raising awareness about environmental challenges and climate justice, featured esteemed guests including Ms. Rukhsana Kusar, Director of the Research and Training Wing at the Population Welfare Department, and Ms. Sana Yaseen, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Climate Change Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Ra'ana Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Gender Studies, extended a warm welcome to the honorable guests and participants.

The formal session commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by insightful discussions led by Mr. M. Uzair, Research Officer at DGS-PU, and our distinguished guest speakers. The speakers emphasized the importance of reducing women and girls' vulnerability to environmental challenges and advocating for climate justice.

Acknowledging the active participation of faculty members and students, both the Chairperson and Guest Speakers expressed their gratitude. As a token of appreciation, the Department presented office table plants as souvenirs, carrying the message of "3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle," aligning with the vision of our esteemed Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood: "One Plant - One Student," aimed at enhancing the greenery of our campus.

Following the seminar, an awareness campaign on tree plantation was conducted, featuring posters and an awareness walk. Faculty members, guests, and students enthusiastically participated in the tree plantation drive at the Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore, reaffirming their commitment to environmental conservation.
