PU achieves milestone as Rs. 4.15b revised PC-I approved by CDWP

LAHORE: (Thursday, September 10, 2026): A major milestone has been achieved for Punjab University as the 2nd revision of the PC-I titled “Strengthening of Academic and Research Programs at the University of the Punjab, Lahore”, with a total allocation of Rs. 4.15 billion, has been approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). The revised PC-I was approved at a meeting of the CDWP, chaired by the Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Government of Pakistan Prof Ahsan Iqbal. In a press statement, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that the approval marks a significant step towards further strengthening the academic and research infrastructure of PU. He said that the project is aimed at upgrading the university’s core research capabilities, strengthening academic programmes, improving research facilities and creating an enhanced environment for advanced teaching, learning and research. He said that the revised allocation of Rs. 4.15 billion will provide important financial support for the implementation of the project and help PU to achieve its objectives of developing modern academic and research infrastructure. He said that PU administration expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty for this significant achievement and acknowledged the valuable support, guidance and cooperation extended by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives. The approval of the revised PC-I is being viewed as an important development for PU’s continued transformation into a stronger center of higher education and research. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly towards improving the quality of academic programmes and expanding the PU’s research capacity. PU administration also expressed its resolve to utilize the approved resources effectively for the advancement of academic excellence, research and institutional development.
