LAHORE: (Tuesday, October 06, 2026): Punjab University in collaboration with National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) organized an awareness walk on cybercrime to send a forceful message against cyber harassment, digital blackmail, online fraud, cyber-bullying and the misuse of social media. On this occasion, Dean faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq Sheikh, Director Pakistan Study Centre Prof. Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi, Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar, Director Students Affairs Prof. Dr. Shahzeb Khan, Additional Director NCCIA Atif Ameer, Deputy Directors Hassan Naqvi, Muhammad Waqas, hostels’ wardens, superintendents and a large number of students were present. The walk witnessed particularly enthusiastic participation by female students, who raised passionate slogans against online harassment and intimidation and called for safer digital spaces for women and young people. Students asserted that harassment behind a screen is still harassment, that cybercrime must be reported rather than silently endured, and that Pakistan's digital spaces must become safer, more responsible and more accountable. PU and NCCIA officials in a meeting agreed on a sustained institutional partnership for promoting safer cyber spaces across the University. It was decided that a student society dedicated to Safe Cyber Spaces would be formed to engage students directly in awareness, responsible digital citizenship and peer outreach. PU and NCCIA will collaborate on a series of awareness seminars, interactive sessions and educational activities across the University. The initiative marks a shift from awareness to organized action, with tens of thousands of young people studying at the University and an ever-growing dependence on digital platforms, cyber safety can no longer be treated as a peripheral concern. Harassment, blackmail, impersonation, financial fraud and digital abuse must be identified, reported and confronted. Through its partnership with NCCIA, the PU reaffirmed that its campuses, communities and digital spaces must remain environments in which students, particularly women, can participate without fear, intimidation or harassment.
