Lahore, 6th October 2026: The Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore, in collaboration with the City Traffic Police, Lahore, organized an awareness seminar on “Road Safety and Civic Responsibilities” at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Gender Studies. The seminar was aimed at promoting awareness among students and faculty members regarding traffic rules, road safety, responsible road-user behaviour, pedestrian safety, and civic responsibilities.
The session commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by a student of the Department of Gender Studies. The proceedings were moderated by Dr. Muhammad Uzair, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore, who welcomed the speakers and participants and highlighted the importance of road safety education and civic responsibility, particularly among young people.
During the session, Mr. Ehsaan, Sub-Inspector, Education Wing, City Traffic Police, Lahore, delivered a highly interactive and informative awareness session. He provided practical guidance on traffic rules and regulations, road safety practices, responsible driving, pedestrian safety, and the importance of disciplined behaviour on roads. He also engaged students in an interactive discussion to strengthen their understanding of safe and responsible road use.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Fahmeeda Zeeshan, Inspector and In-charge, Education Wing, City Traffic Police, Lahore, briefed the participants about various departmental initiatives being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif. She particularly emphasized the importance of women's empowerment, girls' mobility, road safety for women, and ethical and responsible behaviour on roads. She encouraged female students to become informed and confident road users while observing traffic laws and promoting a culture of safety and civic responsibility.
The seminar also featured an important facilitation initiative for the university community. A City Traffic Police, Lahore Licensing Van was available on the spot at the Department of Gender Studies to facilitate new learner driving licenses, driving license renewal, and other licensing-related services for Punjab University students, faculty, and staff. The initiative provided convenient access to licensing services and complemented the awareness objectives of the seminar.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar, Chairperson, Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore. She appreciated the efforts of the City Traffic Police, Lahore, for conducting the awareness session and providing on-the-spot licensing facilities for the university community. She also emphasized the need for continued collaboration between educational institutions and public-sector departments to promote responsible citizenship, safety awareness, and community well-being.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for students and faculty members to enhance their knowledge of road safety and traffic regulations while reinforcing the broader message that responsible road behaviour is an essential component of responsible citizenship.
