PU, Weifang University, NEIA join hands for new energy cooperation

LAHORE: (Thursday, October 8, 2026): Punjab University, Weifang University, China and the New Energy Industry Association (NEIA) have signed a Letter of Intent to explore and develop cooperation in new energy education, training and research. In this regard, a signing ceremony was held at Punjab University Vice Chancellor’s office committee room, on this occasion, PU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mahmood Saleem, Director International Student Administration Office Weifang University, Dr. Li Jianmin, Chairman New Energy Industry Association Mr. Chen Zhongyao, Director External Linkages Prof Dr Yamina Salman and others were present. The collaboration reflects the growing importance of new energy technologies and the need to develop highly qualified human resources in areas including solar photovoltaics, energy storage and battery systems, power electronics, electric mobility and charging infrastructure. According to details, three parties intend to explore a range of academic, industry and research initiatives, including the feasibility of a collaborative undergraduate programme in new energy engineering or technology, potentially involving collaborative delivery models. The proposed cooperation will cover several areas, including, development of curricula and courses in emerging new energy disciplines, faculty development, training and academic capacity building, short courses, certificate programmes and professional training, Chinese language learning opportunities for students and faculty participating in cooperative activities, industry engagement through internships, site visits, guest lectures and career guidance, joint research, laboratory planning and development of practical training facilities, and joint seminars, workshops and conferences in areas of mutual interest. Prof Dr Mahmood Saleem said that the proposed partnership brings together academic expertise, international educational collaboration and industry engagement with the shared objective of supporting Pakistan’s emerging new energy sector. By linking universities with industry, the initiative aims to contribute to the development of skilled graduates, practical training opportunities, applied research and stronger academic-industry linkages in new energy technologies, he added. Weifang University and the New Energy Industry Association look forward to exploring meaningful and sustainable avenues of cooperation that can contribute to new energy education, workforce development, research and technological advancement in Pakistan.
