This service provides support and maintenance of all network communication infrastructure required to sustain the IT activities within University premises. Network infrastructure plays an increasingly central role in enabling the high levels of agility you need to respond quickly to educational opportunities and challenges. Information Technology Centre also manage network expansion and enhancement by own staff that is specialized in all these expansion activities.

Introduction:
The University of the Punjab has the largest IT Network Infrastructure for serve the IT services in the best and latest possible ways. At the moment, University has 802 Mbps bandwidth for students, faculty and Researchers which is the largest bandwidth amongst any Public Sector University in Pakistan.

The University of the Punjab has the largest Fiber Optic Cables Local Area Network involving more than 35 KM single and multimode fiber optic cable as backbone with more than 6,500 nodes, which provide intranet & internet facility between all existing departments and hostels with each other.

I.T Centre has started the PERN-2 Project in which all leading universities of Pakistan will be connected at 1 gigabit/s optical fiber and 10 gigabit/s Optical Fiber backbone. The University of the Punjab will be the LA-PoP (Local Access Point of Presence) for the PERN-2 setup for other universities in Lahore.

Wireless connectivity between University IT Centre (server room) and Department of French (old building of Institute of Administrative Sciences in Quaid-e-Azam campus for the internet facility for faculty members and student of French Department.

Similarly in Allama Iqbal Campus, IT Centre has established a LAN Network through Fiber Optic Cables as backbone among different departments including PUCIT, College of Art and Design and College of Pharmacy . IT Centre also has been connected to College of Pharmacy and Oriental College to College of Pharmacy through wireless network. IT Centre is providing internet facility to all these departments by 100 Mbps link through PERN2.

To access this service within PU premises:
For acquisition of New Network Connections, PU Staff Member has to give written request or send E-mail to Director IT-Centre in this regard. (This Service is only for PU Staff Members.) Information Technology Centre is managed network expansion and enhancement by own staff that is specialized in all these activities.
