PU IMMG organizes seminar on Tackling AMR


LAHORE: (Friday, November 17, 2023): Punjab University Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (IMMG) conducted a seminar on Tackling AMR: The fight against infection and sepsis here on Friday. The seminar's goal was to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance and to suggest creative technological solutions for it. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, CEO of Global Marketing Services Zafar Iqbal, Director Institute of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri, faculty members and students were present. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood appreciated the organizers for arranging a seminar on the globally important issue of AMR emergence. He said that these sorts of awareness seminars are the need of the day. He said that all faculty members and the research scholars should focus on the issues related to society and have a bag full of applied research that can help and resolve the society’s major issues of health. He had the opinion that research output plays a crucial part in the university's global ranking and that collaboration among all of us is essential to raising the ranking even higher. Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri talked about the role of biofilm formation in developing and evolution of antimicrobial resistances. The CEO of GMS told students about career opportunities for the students of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Dr Lilas Hajdi offered her collaborations for good research output. Dr Saba Riaz and Dr Hasnain Javed also presented about AMR. Later, the Director IMMG congratulated students and the organizing committee for conducting such an informative seminar.
