PU VC inaugurates first-ever admission assistant chatbot

LAHORE: (Wednesday, June 03, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali has inaugurated PU’s first artificial intelligence-based chatbot designed to guide prospective students regarding admissions and other university-related matters. The inauguration ceremony of the PU admission assistant Chatbot was attended by Chairman Admission Committee Prof Dr. Mahmood Saleem, Dean Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, deans of various faculties, and administrative officers. PU’s web-based chatbot is the first such chatbot launched by a public-sector university for the general public. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali appreciated the development of the chatbot within a short period of time and termed it a commendable achievement. He said that PU places the highest priority on facilitating students and admission seekers. He also directed that the chatbot facility be extended to other departments of the university. Briefing the participants on the chatbot’s performance, Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar said that PU had developed the chatbot using its own resources within a short timeframe. He informed that the chatbot would provide guidance in English, Urdu, and Roman Urdu. He further stated that the chatbot would assist applicants regarding eligibility criteria for admission to various academic programs. It will also provide comprehensive information on admission tests, hostel facilities, and program requirements. Moreover, the AI-powered chatbot will offer complete guidance on scholarships and financial assistance opportunities, he added. Dr Sarwar said that the chatbot would also help candidates with information regarding admissions under quota schemes and keep them updated about important university announcements.
