Visit of ICET-PU Alumni (Session 1976-80): Reunite to Reconnect, Remember and Strengthen Industry-Academia Linkages

Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (ICET), University of the Punjab, warmly welcomed its distinguished Alumni Session 1976-80: Engr. M Suleman, Engr. Imran Masud, Engr. Mughis Ahmed, Engr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Engr. Mahmood Khalid, Engr. Javed Ghafoor Lodhi, Engr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Engr. M. Abdul Aleem, Engr. Agha M. Afzal, Engr. Basharat Awan, Engr. M. Suleman, Engr. Dr. Arif Bashir, Engr. Ibrahim Arif, Engr. Nasim, Engr. Sanaullah, Engr. Noman Shah, Engr. Arif Rizwan and Engr. Wasim, for a memorable get-together aimed at reconnecting classmates, recalling cherished memories, and renewing their bond with their Alma mater.
In this regard several valuable initiatives were proposed. Engr. Iftikhar offered the platform of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAPAM) for internships and training, while Engr. Basharat offered to establish a small an Electroplating Research Lab at ICET. Engr. Dr. Arif Bashir, representing Nishat Group, discussed opportunities for internships, trainings particularly in the cement sector and project-based industry sponsorship and collaboration. Engr. Agha M. Afzal expressed his commitment to developing a yarn-testing facility at ICET.
All participants of Alumni (session 1976-80) proposed for pursuing industry-funded research projects, establishing an endowment fund. During informal discussion, the hospitality and interaction created a warm and nostalgic atmosphere, bringing back the memories of student life and lifelong friendships.
Later on, a formal “Plantation ceremony” was organized at Alumni garden at ICET in honour of contributions by all fellows of session 1976-80 followed by an extensive tour to visit classrooms, library, seminar room and laboratories. All participants highly appreciated the management and administration of Director ICET along with the progress and ongoing development work being undertaken under the current leadership of ICET. Moreover, they particularly enjoyed their visit at Main Chemical Engineering Lab with a large number of pilot plants equipped with modern facilities. The visit was concluded with a group photograph, capturing a memorable reunion filled with friendship, gratitude and renewed commitment to ICET. It was proposed that such visits and reunions should be on annual basis to bring back the same cherished faces with even louder laughter, stronger bonds and greater contributions to the Alma mater.
