PU DGS organizes awareness seminar on Road Safety

LAHORE: (Friday, October 9, 2026): Punjab University Department of Gender Studies in collaboration with the City Traffic Police Lahore has organized an awareness seminar on “Road Safety and Civic Responsibilities”. The seminar was aimed at promoting awareness among students and faculty members regarding traffic rules, road safety, responsible road-user behaviors, pedestrian safety, and civic responsibilities. On this occasion, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar, In-charge Education Wing, City Traffic Police Inspector Fahmeeda Zeeshan, moderator Assistant Prof Dr. Muhammad Uzair, faculty members, officials from Traffic Police and a large number of students were present. In her address, Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar appreciated the efforts of the City Traffic Police, Lahore, for conducting the awareness session and providing on-the-spot licensing facilities for the university community. She emphasized the need for continued collaboration between educational institutions and public-sector departments to promote responsible citizenship, safety awareness, and community well-being. Fahmeeda Zeeshan briefed the participants about various departmental initiatives being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif. She particularly emphasized the importance of women's empowerment, girls' mobility, road safety for women, and ethical and responsible behavior on roads. She encouraged female students to become informed and confident road users while observing traffic laws and promoting a culture of safety and civic responsibility. The seminar also featured an important facilitation initiative for the university community. A City Traffic Police, Lahore Licensing Van was available on the spot at the Department of Gender Studies to facilitate new learner driving licenses, driving license renewal, and other licensing-related services for PU community.
