LAHORE: (Thursday, November 29, 2012): Punjab University Institute of Education and Research Director Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar has said that progress in education was not possible without research. She was addressing the inaugural session of 2nd Post Graduate Students Conference 2012 on “Education in Pakistan: Trends of 21st Century” at Waheed Shaheed Hall here on Thursday.

Senior faculty members, researchers and a large number of students participated in the event. Dr Akhtar said that education played a vital role in promotion of peace, economic growth, prosperity and political stability. Conference organizer Prof Dr Rifaqat Ali threw light on the theme and purpose of the conference. As many as 20 research papers were presented in the conference. In the concluding session, Prof Dr Muhammad Ibrahim lauded the efforts of organizers. Prof Dr Saeed Shahid, Prof Dr Abid Hussain, Prof Dr Abdul Hameed, Prof Dr Irshad Ahmed Farrukh, Prof Dr Maher Saeed Akhter and Dr Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry in their speeches stressed for promotion of research culture in society and hoped that the government would increase research grant and would provide special funds to PhD scholars.
